枰林 Part 3

Right around half way between Taipei and Pinglin the ascent becomes a descent. So when we started out for Taipei it was another uphill climb for an hour and a half. Coming down from the mountain heading towards Taipei was such an amazing feeling. For around ten continuous minutes you don't have to pedal, brake, or do anything but descend and let the wind welcome you. The average descent speed was about 40km/h. Let your ears pop and feel the cool mountaintop air get replaced by that of the city.

Then this happened. As mentioned earlier, the bicycle I bought is of poor quality. Thankfully this happened when we were already on the bike trail that circumscribes the city.

Fortunately I brought tools to patch a flat. Unfortunately, the standard nut size of 15" is not used in Taiwan. There are little bike shops everywhere in Taipei, you are never far from help.

The bike path that skirts the city has all sorts of miscellaneous facilities. We came across a climbing wall while walking our bikes.

Trevor got Mission Impossible on it.

Some graffiti, "2012 is so 2009", pretty deep stuff.

After I patched my tire we went back home.

The trip distance is about 50km one way, which took us roughly four and a half hours to complete there, and less on the way back.
