枰林 Part 1

Kevin, Trevor, and I went on a two day bike trip to a nearby village called PingLin.

Spirits and energy levels were high when we set out.

After about an hour of riding, we stopped for some dumplings. This right at the edge of Taipei City, once you leave this area it is all mountainous terrain.

Things got steep in a real hurry.

This is the bicycle that I bought in Taipei; a cheap road bike with 18 gears, the first to third of which is what I used for the ascent.

The scenery made biking up a mountain feel less challenging.

It drizzled the entire way to PingLin, which was actually a much welcomed alternative to the sunny 40 degree weather we had the day before.

When we arrived in PingLin it was already dark outside. Trevor had arranged for the three of us to stay at his relatives (whom he had never actually met before). They own a tea house, this picture is that tea house.

PingLin is a town that depends exclusively on the tea industry for revenue. All of the bags in this picture are filled with tea leaves.

This is the town's main street, every single shop that lines it sells tea.

Dinner

Our sleeping quarters were an uninhabited apartment above the tea house, Trevor and I slept in this elevated bedroom.
